France 2022: Skiing the Slopes of La Plagne

Alpine skiing is a fun and exciting sport that I’ve unfortunately not been able to practise for the last 4 years. Indeed, in 2019 we decided to trade in our skiing holiday for a roadtrip in Iceland, and in 2020 and 2021 the pandemic came in the way. Early April, my eldest daughter Helena and I however make a somewhat last-minute decision to go skiing to the French resort of La Plagne (more specifically: Belle Plagne), where we have been several times before.

We arrive after a rather substantial snowfall, and are able to enjoy lovely sunny and crisp weather for 4 days in a row. Obviously, during these days skiing conditions are excellent, especially considering the time of year. The last 2 days see a brutal shift in the weather, with non-abating heavy snowfalls, adding another 50-70 cm of snow to the snowpack. Unfortunately, during these days skiing conditions are difficult, not so much because of the snow, but due to very limited visibility…

France 2017: Another Glorious Easter Skiing Holiday

A late season skiing holiday in the French Alps always gives a good chance of fabulous weather, pleasant temperatures, and strong contrasts between early summer conditions at lower elevations and good ski fun higher up the mountains. This is exactly what we encountered during our family holiday mid-April in La Plagne: sunny weather all week long, mild temperatures, and skiing from the glacier at 3170 m down to 1350 m.
